Pennsylvania schools still answer to Greg Moyer's Law on CPR and AEDs.
Act 17 of 2026 requires offered training, certified people on site, and accessible devices, with full compliance due by May 13, 2029. The school year is already under way.

Governor Shapiro signed Senate Bill 375 on May 13, 2026. It is Act 17 of 2026 and is known as Greg Moyer's Law. It is still the rule that governs how Pennsylvania schools handle CPR and automated external defibrillators this school year.
Every school entity and nonpublic school must make CPR and AED instruction available to employees and volunteers at least once every two years. Certain roles—school nurses or their designees, coaches, physical-education teachers, athletic trainers, and marching-band directors—must complete the training and keep certification current. Each school entity must have at least one certified person in every school building during the school day, and AEDs must be ready at interscholastic practices and competitions with a trained person nearby.
The training must come from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the National Safety Council, or an equivalent course approved by the Department of Health. That is the same family of courses that already live in most Pennsylvania classrooms and staff rooms. The law does not invent a new curriculum; it makes the existing one non-negotiable for the people who are expected to act.
Schools that take part in interscholastic athletics must also keep a cardiac emergency response plan, review it every year, and run an annual cardiac arrest drill. The act took effect on signing, and schools have until May 13, 2029, three years from that date, to comply fully. The first annual AED report to the Department of Education is due by June 30, 2027. The school calendar does not wait. Fall sports, band, and daily building occupancy are already under way.
Wystepek Ventures, LLC teaches the current AHA Heartsaver and BLS materials, and the American Heart Association is one of the training providers the law names.
